Mahesh Shetty, MD, MPH, FCCP

Dr. Mahesh Shetty practices pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine in Sunnyvale, CA. After completing his medical degree at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College in Mumbai, India, he headed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his Masters in Public Health. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Health Centre in St. Louis and fellowships in pulmonary medicine (Yale University), critical care medicine (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), and sleep medicine (University of Buffalo).

It was during his residency that Dr. Shetty became intrigued by the complexity of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), asthma, lung cancer, and obstructive sleep apnea. This led to his passion to improve the management of patients with such lung problems. As a Fellow of the College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), Dr. Shetty also specialize in Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) guided procedures that are used to evaluate, diagnose and stage lung cancer.

Dr. Shetty is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine and has published numerous articles on chest medicine. With this passion for teaching, Dr. Shetty always invites medical students and trainees to his clinic. In his free time, Dr. Shetty enjoys biking along the river as well as hiking on various bay trails.

After completing my Masters in Public health, I started an Internal Medicine Residency in St Louis, MO. During my training I was intrigued by COPD, Asthma and Lung Cancer due to the complexity of the disease and the inherent scope for improvement in its management. I was particularly drawn towards the dynamics of the management of patients with lung problems including COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Asthma and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
